Summary: Just a short scene in the locker room. Catherine takes a chance. Written for [livejournal.com profile] csi_crimelab, Prompt 1: If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary.

“See you later Warrick.”

“Later Nick.” Warrick waved and gave Catherine a small smile in passing. “Bye Cath.”

“See you tomorrow, Rick.” Catherine walked into the locker room and went to her private locker. She opened it and grabbed her coat to pull on over her clothing and her purse. “Good job on that triple, Nick. You and Sara make a good team.”

“Anyone can make a good team with Sara. She’s good at what she does.” Nick leaned over to dig through a duffle bag and pull out a clean shirt. “But thanks, Catherine.”

Catherine cast a sideways glance to where Nick was sitting on the bench. She chewed on the inside of her cheek to keep from asking him to go somewhere with her. They had been working together a lot lately and today had been one of the rare days that she hadn’t seen much of him. Now that she had time to think about it, it unnerved her more than she had expected it to. “Missed you today, Nick.”

A boyish grin spread over Nick’s lips causing the corners of his eyes to wrinkle as he looked over to Catherine. “Thanks. Missed you too. Barely saw you today.” He stood up and began to change his shirt.

“Just when Grissom handed out assignments and that was it.” Catherine nodded and paused, mentally making a decision to press forward. “You want to go for a drink? Lindsey’s over at a friends house and I had kind of a heavy case.”

“Yeah… that DB at the Bellagio. She was young.” Nick buttoned up his shirt and picked up the duffle bag to zip it up. He had nothing to do and the triple had been a hard case as well. “Sure. Let’s go get a drink.”

When Catherine simply stared at him, he smiled again. “Thought I’d say no?”

Catherine hesitated a moment and then nodded, shutting her locker. “I guess I did. Where to?”

“I’m driving.” Nick shook his head, pulling his keys out of his pocket.

“What? Why?” She asked, an eyebrow arched curiously.

“I’ve seen you drive, Catherine and I’m driving.” Nick teased.

Catherine tilted her head back in a laugh, already relaxing and easing into the rest of her evening. If anything this would be a good time with a good friend. “Fine. You drive. Now if we can just make it to the parking lot before anyone notices we’re leaving.”

Nick grinned another grin that made him look younger and not at all like a scientist. A chuckle escaped him and he shook his head. “Nah. Just walk straight ahead and pretend you’re deaf.”
